The Department of English was started with the establishment of the college in 1977. This programme is of three years as per the recognition of Government of Karnataka and Rani Channamma University, Belagavi.
Since the inception of college the Department progressively working for better results. Mrs.Rehana Shaikh was the pioneer of the Department. The credit of nurturing this Department goes to litterateur Prof.Veerabhadra Koudi an eminent Short Story writer who joined the Department in 1978. Besides the educational programmes the department has been organizing lectures from the senior professors of other cognate institutions and other officials relating to the field of English language and literature.
Currently Dr.Anilkumar Alalamath is heading the Department.

- To train the students in comparative study of Indian and Western literature.
